The School contains five theaters, four galleries, two recording studios, photography dark rooms, recital halls, dance studios, stop motion capture rooms, the Experimental Media      
Performance Lab (xMPL), and the Beall Center for Art + Technology.

Celebrate the Arts and CTSA with our annual open house! The event is a rich palette of performances which showcase the talents of our students and faculty. Art exhibitions, musical concerts, dance performances, dress rehearsals and more take place in various CTSA venues. Get a behind-the-scenes look as the productions as you tour practice and performance spaces. Join us for an evening of food and festivities throughout our Arts campus! This event is open to all our season patrons as well as the general public.

Free admission and open to the public.

Shuttle services will begin one hour before showtime and will meet patrons on Level Two (Mesa Road street level) of the Mesa Parking Structure, by the elevator. Digital and Darkroom Photography

From digital to black and white!  Develop a holisitic approach to producing stunning photos both on the computer and in the darkroom.  

Students will split their time learning the fundamental and advanced techniques of darkroom and digital photography.  Lessons in darkroom photography consist of elements of a good black and white photograph, metering/exposure of a 35mm film camera, and developing your own film and prints. Lessons in digital photography consist of manipulation of DSLR camera settings, editing on Adobe software, and image processing. The Academy will end in a final exhibition for family and friends (more details to be shared).  

Supplies included in registration cost.  We recommend students provide their own cameras, but have a limited quantity available for check out.

New Swan Apprenticeship in Acting for Theatre

Experience the one-of-a-kind New Swan Shakespeare Festival!  Train in acting for theatre and audition preparation through coursework including voice, movement, improv and more.

Students will work alongside actors from our New Swan Shakespeare Festival and esteemed UCI faculty as they participate in sessions that reflect the coursework taught to our undergraduate drama majors. Material will focus on Shakespeare and contemporary performance, as well as voice and movement. Additional studio and classroom-based sessions will also be offered that help students prepare for the collegiate and professional world.  Some sessions may be split based on students' levels, but all students will work together towards final piece. The Academy will end with a final showcase for family and friends (more details to be shared).

Take your skills to the next level!  Learn advanced studio technique and complete portfolio-ready artwork.  

With a mixture of group and individual instruction, students will push the boundaries on their skills and knowledge, while fine tuning and finessing their acquired skills for further development.  Supplies are included in the registration cost.  The Academy will end in a final exhibition for family and friends (more details to be shared).

This Academy course is for advanced artists, and while students may self select whether or not they are advanced, we do recommend you have experience in both drawing and painting.  If not, we do also offer a Drawing/Painting - Beginner course.

Collage Art - Middle School

Create objects of wonder!  Construct new works of art using a broad range of art-making techniques. 

Using different mediums and methods, students will spend the week working on a variety of mini projects that go beyond the average flat, construction paper collage.  The Academy will end in a final exhibition for family and friends (more details to be shared).  Supplies included with registration cost.

Ceramics/3D Printing - Middle School

Bring imagination to life!  Make unique creations using sculpture materials with your hands and with technology.

Students will spending half the day working on clay ceramic sculptures, and the other half on 3D plastic creations.  The Academy will end in a final exhibition for family and friends (more details to be shared).  Supplies included with registration cost.  Thank you to the Speculative Prototyping Lab for use of their 3D printing equipment.

Lights, camera, action!  Work on set of your own short film with hands-on training in directing, creative storytelling, and equipment usage.  

Students will practice team work and collaboration by working in small groups to create, develop, shoot and edit their own short films.  In partnership with the UCI DigiFilm program, students will have access to professional grade equipment and computer software, and learn the ins and outs of the professional video production world.  The Academy will end in a final screening of all the student films (more details to be shared).  Supplies included in registration cost.

Trio Céleste's Chamber Music Festival

Join one of the most unique and rewarding musical experiences available in Southern California!  Explore masterpieces in the chamber music repertoire while working with world-renowned faculty.

Work alongside our resident ensemble Trio Celéste as you build upon your technique towards becoming a well-rounded musician.  Students will be divided based on ensembles, participating in group workshops, personalized coaching and individual practice.  String, wind, and pianists are all welcome to attend.  The Academy will end in a final showcase performance for family and friends (more details to be shared).

Digital Music Production

Record, edit, mix!  Discover the process of making digital music through key production concepts like songwriting and musical arrangement.  No instrumental or programming experience required.

Using state-of-the-art computer and digital equipment, students will record, edit and create all their own original musical content through step-by-step hands-on instruction.  Whether you just love listening to music, or have DJed for your school dances, students of all levels will walk away with their own unique compositions and have a better understanding of music and technology integration.  The Academy will end in a final showcase for family and friends (more details to be shared).

Conservatory Dance

Build your repertoire!  For advanced dancers looking to strengthen technical base while learning in sessions on hip-hop, choreo, injury prevention, dance for camera, improv and more.

Modeled after our undergraduate dancer's curriculum, advanced dancers will participate in sessions on the School's three focused areas of study: ballet, jazz and modern.  However, we do believe in developing holistic dancers, so additional studio and classroom-based sessions will be offered such as hip hop, dance for camera, health and wellness, improv and more.  The Academy will end with a final showcase for family and friends (more details to be shared).
