Performance
Saturday, December 8, 2018
8:00 p.m.
Experimental Media Performance Lab (xMPL)

“Listen to the Motion” features MUGIC™, a prototype motion sensor for performance. The students at the Integrated Composition, Improvisation and Technology (ICIT) program at the Music Department of Claire Trevor School of the Arts (CTSA), will present their works using MUGIC™. “Listen to the Motion” also features guest media artist Luke DuBois from New York University, whose solo exhibition "Music into Data::Data into Music" is currently showing at the Beall Center for Art + Technology.

The concert features works by the student composers Mark Micchelli, Alex Lough and Tomoko Ozawa, as well as dancer/choreographer Jacob Machmer.  Prof. DuBois will collaborate with the students in creating computer graphics, interacting with the MUGIC™ sensor.

MUGIC™ system, which was brought by Prof. Mari Kimura in 2017 with her arrival to UCI, is currently under development at UCI’s Calit2 through the Multidisciplinary Program (MDP) grant for the second year.  For the MUGIC™ project, the students at CTSA collaborate with the students from the Samueli School of Engineering and the Bren School of Information and Computer Science at UCI.
